#J8, 1c Deep brown special printing, a remarkable mint example of this extremely rare special printing, being from the right of the sheet, with a natural straight edge at right, fabulously bright and fresh, with strong rich color and a prooflike impression, both the hallmarks of the special printings, additionally this stamp possesses full unblemished original gum which has never been hinged, a feature not often found on any of the special printings as many lack gum altogether, large margins and centered a bit to right as are most known examples, nearly very fine; despite the published issuance numbers, an extensive study of the Postage Due Special Printings by William E. Mooz has documented that these numbers are very much in error, he contends the vast majority of this value, believed to have been sold as special printings, were in fact the normal printings, furthermore of the small fraction that were indeed special printings, a large portion of those were destroyed, experience has confirmed his study as this particular value seldom comes to market and the prices realized under those rare occasions have established this as one of the rarest of the Postage Due Special Printings; 1995 PF certificate.
