Celtic, Belgae, uninscribed coinage, (c.60-20 BC), gold Stater, 5.18g, 'Cheriton Smiler' type, wreath with three corded lines intersecting, the central line terminating in a crescent shape with voided crescents in recesses, below this a series of parallel lines fanning out with a pair of annulets to one end, rev. disjointed horse left, a series of pellets above and below, eye behind (ABC 755; VA 1215-1; S.24), oval flan, wear to high points, a good example of the 'smiling' face, very fine
