Smith of "A" Squadron to Toronto serving in Transvaal, the first from Wonderfontein on 3 September during mobile operations with three Army P.O. 53 c.d.s. and fine oval-framed "canadian contingent/south africa" datestamp (10.9), the second from Belfast on 21 October with F.P.O. 21 c.d.s. and fair oval-framed "canadian contingent/south africa" datestamp (7.11); 1900 (27 Nov.) envelope from London, Ontario to Trooper Martin James in South Africa, bearing 2c. with c.d.s. and showing boxed "Returned to England without a reason for non-delivery." bi-lingual handstamp in violet, and 1901 (Feb.) "returned dead letter" envelope (crease) from the Post Office Department at Ottawa to Miss Annie James care of Trooper Martin James at London, showing despatch c.d.s. and large "2" printed postage handstamp.
