1d. artists watercolour sketch by Lady Gilbert Carter, second wife of Governor Gilbert Thomas Carter, the vignette showing a portrait of Nelson against an intricate frame in carmine, 130-160mm. and executed on wove paper (200x235mm.) marked at top "Sketch for Nelson Centennial Stamps to be reduced to 1 inch by 1.1/5 inches", and with suggestions for colours of other values at foot; some faults at right and in margins though highly attractive. An outstanding showpiece. Photo
