1883 4c. rose vertical pair affixed to piece, the upper stamp surcharged with large "2c" and the lower stamp overprinted "new issue", fine. Photo

Note: On January 22nd 1883 a requisition was received naming the new colours required to conform with U.P.U. regulations. Amongst other changes, the 2c. was printed in red and the 4c. in light brown. Two cents and four cents stamps in the old colours being ready for shipment it was suggested on March 13th that they be surcharged or overprinted as described above. Neither suggestion was accepted.
