1754 1e Carte de l'Asie by Jean Palairet; 23 x 20¾ inches, uncoloured.

On stout laid paper, this copper engraved map is adorned with an elegant, rococo style cartouche. This is from Palairet's greatest work, the "Atlas méthodique", a magnificent cartographical demonstration.

Usual central fold with paper reinforcement in the lower margin, small corner crease and a couple of minor wrinkles. Photo


Jean Palairet was born in Montauban, France, but emigrated to England where he became a French tutor to the children of George II. He later wrote several informative books on arithmetic, language, arts and sciences, and geography
