Émile Zola
1894 (27 February) autograph note (unsigned) on his visiting card to J.T. Grein in London. The note translates, "With all my sympathy and my lively thanks anyway".
On 23rd February 1894 Grien's Independent Theatre Society produced Zola's 'Heirs of Rabourdin' in London. This production, acknowledged as the worst the Society produced, met with a savage review in the Athenaeum. Zola's note appears to be an acknowledgement of the poor reception of his piece. Photo
