James II (1685-88), Crown, 1687, iacobvs. ii. dei. gratia, second laureate and draped bust left, rev. inverted die axis, .mag. br. fra. et. hib. rex., four crowned shields cruciform, six strings to Irish harp, Garter Star in centre, on a slightly larger flan, edge with upright small neat raised letters, .+. decvs. et. tvtamen. .anno. regni. tertio.+ (ESC 79; MCE 776 variety - R; S.3407), surface flecking both sides and a dark metal flaw on king's jaw, softly struck in centre of reverse, good very fine, light grey toning and fully lustrous giving a frosty appearance, very rare
