provenance
Purchased from Baldwin, 1948, £10

With a letter from Albert Baldwin dated 23 January 1948, 'We have just acquired a proof set of silver coins for 1935 which is a considerably rarity as there were no official proofs of the ordinary coinage issued for that year. We thought therefore you might like to have first refusal of this and we are sending them along for your inspection and approval.'

ESC p.viii notes 'Before the introduction of Decimal Coinage it was the practice of the Royal Mint to make a dozen or so proofs of each denomination every year. From time to time an odd specimen may come on the market.'
