There are not many duplicates in the Slaney collection, but this is one. The other pattern Half-Guinea of 1764 was purchased seven years later at the Dangar sale (Slaney part I, lot 108). The reason for this slip might be that for many years there was confusion regarding the authorship of these patterns. In his 'Guide to English Pattern Coins' (London 1886), the Rev. Crowther attributed the 1761, 1763 and 1765 patterns to Tanner, and this is repeated in many sale catalogues for the next 60 years.
