 The International Gold award-winning collection formed by Barry Smith
1931 (13 Nov.) attempted Port Elizabeth to Cape Town flight by Captain W.F. Davenport, crashed at Sir Lowry's Pass after being caught in a gale: charred envelope registered to Cape Town, franked 6d. and Air 4d. with Durban cancellations (12.11), complete with Post Office explanatory slip. Extremely rare. Davenport, his two passengers and practically all the mail were incinerated. Photo
