The company was founded in 1852 by Hermann Giesecke and Alphonse Devrient in Leipzig. Since then it has specialised in high-quality printing, notably of currency and securities. Today Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) is headquartered in Munich and well known in providing banknote and securities printing as well as smart cards and cash handling systems.
