Ltd., a group of four 5% debentures for £20, 19[12], handsigned by Sir Herbert Jekyll and with facsimile signature of Evelyn Hubbard, very attractive pieces with fine vignette of the city at top, ornate border, red and black, printed by Waterlow & Sons, with coupons, very fine or better. Colonel Sir Herbert Jekyll (1846 - 1932), served in the Royal Engineers in the Ashanti War 0f 1876. Joined the Colonial Office as private secretary to Lord Carnarvon, following him in the same capacity in the War Office. Later joined the board of several large companies. His sister was the famous gardener and artist Gertrude Jekyll.
The Honourable Evelyn Hubbard (1852 – 1934), businessman and Conservative politician. Joined the family business of Russian merchants in 1875. Later became the last governor of the Russia Company and a director of the Bank of England.
