1942 (Mar.) (c.) War Department envelope from Col. John Vance to his wife in Maryland, bears boxed "examined by/theatre censor", without any other marking. This handstamp was used in Melbourne in April 1942, suggesting that this letter was taken by submarine to enter the postal system in Melbourne. A very unusual military letter. Photo
