                        Richard III (1483-85), Penny, 0.71g, York under Archbishop Rotherham, m.m. sun and rose 2/-, crowned facing bust, no marks at neck, pellet on breast, rev. quatrefoil on long cross, trefoil of pellets in angles (Stewartby p. 446 VR weakness to centres and with scratch to bust, this piece, however, probably the largest flan known for this very rare variant of the York mint, Sun and Rose mintmark and RICARD much in evidence, also a very clear mint signature for this, good very fine for this issue usually so poorly struck on small, irregular flans  
Stewartby, p.382, notes that this Archbishop Rotherham issue with no marks by bust is only known from one die. It can be distinguished by the linear die-flaw to the left of the bust.
