Edward the Martyr (975-978), Penny, 1.29g, Sole type, Stamford, Wulfgar, diademed and draped bust left, eadpard rex anglorx around, rev. +pvlgar m-o stanf¯, cross pattée within inner circle (SCBI 1 Fitzwilliam, No 626 - same obverse dies; N.763; S.1142), striking weakness to king's face and with some light double striking towards 12 o'clock on reverse, taken as a whole this piece a very appealing specimen, centrally struck on a perfectly round flan and with with full outer beading, toned and nearly extremely fine, Edward the Martyr a most popular king in numismatic circles
