Auction: 15004 - Ancient, British and Foreign Coins and Commemorative Medals
Lot: 652
Ireland, Edward IV (1461-83), light 'cross and pellets' coinage, 1470-c.78, Penny, 0.44g, Trim, crowned bust facing, rev. [vil] la* det [rim] rosette? after la, long cross with quatrefoil in centre (Burns T1 var - type 1; S.6383 var), fine for issue but a particularly good sized flan for the penny, this variety with rosette? in the reverse legend potentially unlisted
This piece is certainly worthy of furter research under a specialist eye. The quite unexpected symbol in the reverse legend appears to be a rosette but indeed this is open to speculation. An intriguing piece.
