William I, Penny, 1.36g, Paxs type, Bristol, Brunstan, facing crowned bust, sceptre to right, rev. +brvnstan on bri, cross pattée, an annulet in each angle containing a letter of paxs (SCBI 19 Bristol and Gloucester, No 50 - same dies; N.848; S.1257), toned, strong centres with some peripheral weakness, good very fine, Brunstan an extremely rare moneyer at Bristol
c.f. Allen, M, BNJ 2012, Vol. 82; 'The mints and moneyers of England and Wales, 1066-1158, p.70. The moneyer Brunstan struck during the Paxs type only at Bristol. There is only one example of his work (cited above) to be found on the EMC and SCBI databases
