Aethelred II (978-1016), Penny, 1.73g, long cross type, Barnstaple, Aelfsige, bare headed bust left, rev, +aelfsige m·o bard, voided long cross each arm terminating in three crescents (Brettell 416; N.774; S.1151), knocks in field in front and behind bust, superb metal quality and a pleasing piece, extremely fine and an improvement on Brettell's example of Aelfsige in the Long cross type

Aelfsige is a very rare moneyer at the Barnstaple mint. The moneyer usually seen in this type is Byrhsige.
