Aethelstan (924-39), Penny, 1.45g, 'Church' type, York, Frotier, +aedistan rex, trefoil of wedges after regnal title, cross pattée within inner circle, rev. fr / ot / ierm / mon in three lines, the first divided by depiction of Anglo-Saxon church or tower, ground line below, no additional symbols in field (Blunt BNJ Vol.XLII, No 441; CTCE p.295; N.683; S.1100), slight kink across flan but unobtrusive, some shallow scratches but this one of the best 'Church' types in the hoard, a full flan and a good strike, nearly extremely fine
