Royal Humane Society case no. 35,923: 'On the 7th May, 1908, a boy fell into the mill-pond at Leigh and was carried out 20 yards, the depth being 10 feet. Police Constable Thomas Dunphy, on reaching the place, swam out and rescued him, and then restored him to consciousness.'
