Lieutenant-Colonel John Stirling Napier, born Merchiston, Renfrewshire, June 1856; educated at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst; Commissioned Second Lieutenant, 93rd Highlanders, September 1874; promoted Captain, January 1882; appointed Adjutant, 4th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, December 1889; promoted Major, April 1890; appointed Second in Command, 2nd Battalion, September 1894; served with the Battalion as part of the Tochi Field Force under General Sir Corry Bird on the North-West Frontier of India, 1897-98; retired, December 1898; promoted Lieutenant-Colonel, Reserve of Officers, October 1902; died Stirling, August 1913.
