1223 Sergeant James Ralston, born Stranraer, Wigton, 1862; enlisted in the Royal Highlanders, March 1882; served with the 1st Battalion in Egypt, November 1883 to April 1886; was part of a party of 1 Officer and 22 other ranks of the Royal Highlanders who served in the Mounted Infantry Camel Regiment on the Nile and at Abu Klea; promoted Corporal, November 1886; Sergeant, August 1889; discharged, March 1894, after 12 years with the Colours.
