Auction: 148 - The Philatelic Collector's Series Sale
Lot: 382

#J58, 50c Carmine lake, an especially crisp mint example of this, the rarest of all the regularly issued postage dues and one of the rarest stamps in United States philately, possessing a marvelous overall freshness not often encountered on most existing examples, with gorgeous vibrant color and a razor-sharp impression on bright paper, while centered just a bit to left, this is actually far better centered than many, as this stamp is notorious for being found poorly centered, often with its perforations cutting the design, full clean o.g., lightly hinged, fine; a stamp which makes infrequent appearances on the auction market; this is one of the very few graded mint stamps available, the PSE population report has one n.h. example graded VF 80. and no other mint examples hinged or never hinged; 2008 PF certificate (Fine 70; SSV $7,750.00).
