Union military correspondence collection, twelve different letters collected for their interesting content, all with original covers, three with stamps removed, includes one long January 27, 1865 letter written by a deserter on both sides of eight sheets with the letterhead of the "Office of the United States Express Company.", he details his escape to Canada, thoughts of suicide, his resettlement in Illinois and the reasons for fleeing, certainly a unique account by a conscientious objector, also three military documents relating to John C. Gordon, Surgeon in the 28th Regiment of the Michigan Infantry, includes his mustering in on November 5, 1862, his mustering out on February 13, 1863 a notarized voucher to the State of Michigan for compensation of $575.02 for his services with two servants, overall fine-very fine and lovely original historical documents of the Civil War
