Dangerfield, Ingleside, Amelia Court House, Virginia," entered the mails with Confederate States 10c Milky Blue, Die A (#11a), ample to huge margins all around, tied by "Richmond, Va./Jun 14, 1863" datestamp, wonderfully fresh and extremely fine; among the finest known and most attractive of Robert E. This cover was mailed during the early days of the Confederate invasion of the North that culminated in the historic Battle of Gettysburg. It was customary for General Lee's letters from the field to be carried by military courier and usually deposited at the Richmond Post Office. Letters destined beyond Richmond were mailed at the Post Office with postage stamps affixed.
