#C1, 1919 "First/Trans-/Atlantic/Air Post/April, 1919." overprint on 3c Red brown, the so-called "Hawker" air post, a desirable mint example of this popular air post rarity, wonderfully well centered, especially when compared to the others, deep rich color and strong overprint, original gum with the initials "J.A.R." of Postmaster General Dr. J.A. Robinson on the gum as always, extremely fine and choice; of the 200 stamps produced, eighteen were damaged or destroyed, 95 were used as flight cover frankings, eleven were given as presentation copies and the remaining 76 sold for the benefit of the Marine Disasters Fund, therefore only 87 mint examples (at most) are available to collectors, and fewer still are found in this premium quality; signed Bolaffi and accompanied by his 1964 certificate as well as a 1958 BPA certificate (Unitrade C$35,000.00).
