The Anglo-Boer War
1881 (16 May) A.L.S. from General P.J. Joubert, Boer General and politician, written on notepaper with the Royal Arms, from Heidelberg, then capital of the Transvaal, to Major (Redvers) Buller, V.C., advising, "The Carthorses having given up, we are obliged to proceed on horseback. - Will you kindly be ready in an hours time?".

Written in the aftermath of the First Boer War, following the signing of a peace treaty in March 1881. A rare letter between former adversaries. Photo
