1902-10 De la Rue
2d. Tyrian plum, the unissued stamp, lightly mounted mint; a few negligible gum wrinkles. A very fine example of this very famous stamp. R.P.S. Certificate (1982). S.G. 266a, £110,000. Photo

Although over 100,000 sheets were printed of the 2d. Tyrian plum and delivered to the Inland Revenue, release to the post offices was delayed until the stocks of the bicoloured stamps had been used up. After the death of the King on 6th May 1910 it was decided not to proceed with this issue. The stock was destroyed apart from a few examples which survived from the official records
