The Chin Hills District
After the Japanese occupied Rangoon in March 1942, an emergency mail service was organised by Major A.G. McCall, District Commissioner, Lushai Hills at Aijal.
The postal runners made an eight day journey from Haka, Tiddim and Fort White via Falam, to Aijal in Assam and thence to India.
By July stamps overprinted "service" had become exhausted and ordinary stamps overprinted "OHMS" by typewriter were approved.
1942 (12 Oct.) OHMS parcel wrapping registered from Tiddim to "The Civil Surgeon, Chin Hills, Falam", bearing India 1a., 2a. and 4a. strip of three and single each with typewritten "OHMS" and tied by "tiddim" c.d.s. (Type D3), and showing provisional registration label (stained by affixative); some creases as to be expected with item of this nature. A remarkable franking. Very rare. Photo
