1864 (26 Jan.) Bill of Exchange drawn on Chartered Mercantile Bank of India, London and China at Singapore three months after date for $240. Being dated prior to the transfer of administration from Bengal to Singapore this paper, which is watermarked Government of India Bill of Exchange, has been stamped 12a. in Calcutta with embossed stamp. An important document showing use of imported stamped paper and believed to be the only known use of the Calcutta mark in Singapore (not mentioned in Hsiong). Photo
