£1 watercolour handpainted essays in lilac and rose and in olive-green shades, both with the central value tablet highlighted in Chinese white, both stamp-size and inset on card (135x114mm.) with "waterlow & sons/limited/specimen" embossed seal at foot, mounted on a further piece of brown card (185x150mm.). Unique and highly attractive. Photo

Note: Waterlow and Sons Ltd. tender for this issue was unsuccessful although the design in these two essays is very close to that used by Bradbury, Wilkinson in the issued stamps
