"On Maori Council Business Only." envelope from Karitane to Dunedin showing, at upper right corner, a superb strike of the "maori council./araiteuru district." illustrated cachet in light blue and signed "Tiemi Hipi" the Chairman of the District; tear at top through opening, just touching cachet though very rare. One of only 3,000 envelopes printed, these becoming obsolete in December 1906 when official adhesive stamps replaced franking. Photo
