— 1918 (Nov.) envelope from Hamilton to Tapanui, Otago, bearing 1½d. grey (1d. postage, ½d. War Tax) with machine datestamp and showing a good strike of the "damaged in wreck/train. mataroa" handstamp in magenta. Rare, being only the second recorded example of this cachet recorded. Photo

Note: This cover was salvaged from the Auckland-Wellington express after the smash at Mataroa, 8km. north-west of Taihape. Three people were killed including two postal workers
