1869 (12 Mar.) envelope, complete with letter headed "Eweburn Station, Mount Ida", "via Suez and Southampton" to Scotland, bearing 1864-67 6d. red-brown very lightly cancelled "037" and with despatch, Dunedin (13.3) and arrival (23.5) c.d.s. on reverse. Believed to be the earliest recorded mail from this gold mining settlement. Photo

Note: The goldfield at Mount Ida was worked from the early 1860s. A Post Office was opened in late August 1863
