Mail via Marseilles to the United Kingdom
1867 (21 Mar.) envelope from Dunedin "Via Marseilles and Suez" to Scotland, bearing 1864-67 4d. yellow and 6d. brown twice cancelled by "O" duplex, Golspie arrival c.d.s. (13.5) on reverse; scarce and most attractive with little mail sent via Suez during the Panama contract period. Photo

Note: The SS "Otago", of the Panama line, carried the New Zealand mail to Melbourne from Port Chalmers for mail to be carried on the P&O Line. Sailed that day (21 March) from Otago, with the mails for Great Britain via Marseilles, per Melbourne. The via Panama mail left Sydney via Wellington where the NZ mail left on 8 April, arriving UK on 26 May
