1893 (6 Jan.) 1d. stationery card to Warri, written by Roger Casement, cancelled by light "old calabar river" code "C" c.d.s. (Type D2) and showing another clearer strike below; also 1894 (11 July) 1d. stationery card addressed to Stanley Gibbons London, clearly cancelled by "old calabar river" squared-circle d.s. (Type D4) with code "B". An interesting pair of cards

Note: Roger Casement was knighted for his work, when with the Consular Service, in exposing atrocities within the Belgian Congo and Peru. He was stripped of his knighthood and hanged for treason in 1916 for attempting to recruit Irish prisoners of war in Germany for an Irish Brigade in the Republican cause.
