The town was occupied on 5 June 1900 by Rhodesian Troops under Lt. Col. Plumer where he joined forces with Baden-Powells troops from Mafeking and Otto'shoop. The force then moved forward to occupy Brackfontein on 10 June and Rustenburg on 14 June

Transvaal Revenue Stamps Surcharged
Lord Cecil ordered Z.A.R. revenue stamps to be handstamped V.R.I. to value of 1d.
The following quantities were produced: 1d. on 6d. - 204, 1d. on 1/- - 480, 1d. on 2/- - 240 of which only 120 were issued

1d. on 1/- olive-bistre neatly cancelled by double-ring "p.w.k./zeerust. z.a.r." and affixed on small piece; one of only two postally used examples recorded. Photo
