The town was occupied on 5 June 1900 by Rhodesian Troops under Lt. Col. Plumer where he joined forces with Baden-Powells troops from Mafeking and Otto'shoop. The force then moved forward to occupy Brackfontein on 10 June and Rustenburg on 14 June

Mounted Brigade of the Rhodesian Field Force and showing F.P.O. 4 c.d.s. alongside London Paid c.d.s. (3.12), arrival c.d.s. (4.10 on reverse, and 1901 (8 Sept.) unstamped envelope from Lord Methuen at Zeerust to his wife in England, showing Mafeking and London Paid (12.10) datestamps
