Sir Moses Haim Montefiore, 1st Baronet, FRS (1784 -1885), financier and banker. Brother in law to Nathan M Rothschild and acted as his stockbroker. A great philanthropist, donating huge sums to promote development of the Levant (Israel). President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews. Promoted many companies in the 1820's notably the Alliance companies represented here along with Nathan Rothschild. High Sheriff of London in 1837 and knighted in the same year. Created a baronet in 1846.
