New Zealand Midland Railway Co. Ltd., a group of 16 First Mortgage debentures for £12 10 shillings, 1895, various numbers, series D, ornate border, black, mauve underprint with £12:10 in centre, all with coupons, a few with minor edge tears, generally very fine. (16)

Incorporated in 1885 with a managing committee in London, to build a 235 mile line from Christchurch to Nelson, contracted with Government and planned cost of £2.5m. Lack of funds saw works cease in 1895, and the Government seized the company's assets, the line later completed by the Public Works Department in 1898.
