Postal History
1858-59, two envelopes addressed to U.S.A., both apparently carried privately without despatch markings; one was carried on "U.S.Ship 'Portsmouth" with San Francisco c.d.s. (20.11) and "ship" plus "12" handstamp, notation on the reverse indicates that the letter reach Washington on 15th December; the other cover bears San Francisco 1859 (3 June) arrival c.d.s. with "20" handstamp. Good to fine and these appear to be early trans-pacific mail. (2) covers. Photo
