Henry V (1413-22), Groat, 3.87g, class B, London, m.m. cross pattée with central pellet, ‘scowling’ bust, fleurs on all cusps except over crown, saltire after henric, reads franc', mullet added to right of breast rev. double saltire after posvi, double saltire after tas and don (Potter IVb die 5 or 7; Stewartby B2a*, p.324; N.1386(1)b; S.1763b), weak on face and in portion of legend, most other devices clear including mullet added to die, nearly very fine and a very rare variety, just six examples known to Potter
Both Potter and Lord Stewartby support the theory that King Henry V's reign is designated on the coinage by the use of a mullet. This obverse die is known to have been used both before and after the addition of a mullet on the king's right shoulder. It, therefore, bridges the transition between King Henry IV and V and is of significant numismatic and historic interest.
