BERG, Adam. (Munich 1540 - 1610). New Munzbuech darinnen allerley gross und kleine silberne und guldene Sorten, und wichtiger ursach willen also furgestelt Werden. Munich, Adam Berg, first edition, 1597. Folio; (14) 160 (46) pages numbered as 80 which are double page plates of some 1863 woodcut coin illustrations, the gold coins hand tinted. Some occasional and slight staining, neat repairs on several leaves, page 77 unfortunately more recently repaired with cellotape. Title printed in red and black. Housed in 19th century cloth-backed maroon boards, slightly loose and spine slightly cracked at top. Boards worn at corners but sound and very rare.
The largest and visually the most attractive of all the "coin books". The book consiste of three parts, parts II and III, The Dialogus and Tractat have separate title pages dated 1596, the first being a conversation between Paupertas and Pecunia. The Tractat is an essay on numismatic references in the Bible. The illustrations of the coins are all well done and each is clearly identified and valued.
