Auction: 14006 - Ancient, British and Foreign Coins and Commemorative Medals
Lot: 394
Ireland, Edward IV (1461-83), light 'cross and pellets' coinage, 1473-c.78, Penny, 0.50g, Limerick, cinquefoils by neck, rev. civi[tas] limirici long cross, rosettes replace central pellets in first and fourth quarters (Burns L23 var; S.6376), very fine for issue and a particularly good example of this rare mint/denomination combination
Burns lists 6 specimens of his L23 with roses by neck in volume 2 of Irish Hammered Pennies of Edward IV and Richard III. The current specimen, however, clearly displays a cinquefoil or pansy by the king's neck (no central depression evident) as listed in SCBC.
