Henry VIII (1509-1547), second coinage, 1526-44, Groat, 2.52g, m.m. rose, Lombardic lettering / Lombardic lettering, young crowned bust right, Laker C, c in henric, closed, di' g' r' agl', z franc', rev. shield over long cross fourchée, saltires in forks (Laker p.10, C; N.1797; S.-), off-struck, a little short of flan, good diagnostic features to portrait, nearly very fine or better, a rare bust variety
In 'The Portrait Groats of Henry VIII', Laker, p.11 explains; 'Type C is a rare portrait which C. A. Whitton refers to as a 'Greek profile', showing a straighter nose and a rather pointed chin. A difficult portrait to find, there are none in the British Museum...'.
