Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Herbert Lightfoot Eason, C.B., C.M.G., (1874-1949), educated at University College, London, and Guy's Hospital; Commissioned Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel, Royal Army Medical Corps, 13.9.1915, and served with the Corps during the Great War as Consulting Ophthalmic Surgeon to the Forces in the Mediterranean and Egypt, 1915-19; after the War appointed Superintendent and Senior Ophthalmic Surgeon at Guy's Hospital; Dean of the Medical School and Warden of University College, London; Vice-Chancellor, University of London, 1935-37; Principal, University of London, 1937-41; and President of the General Medical Council; knighted for his services to medicine, June 1943.
