6142 Private John Smith, born Leeds, 1881; enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers, November 1899, having previously served in the 3rd Militia Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment; served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa; severely wounded at Klerksdorf, 25.2.1902; discharged, 12.11.1911, after 12 years with the Colours.
