Military General Service 1793-1814, nine clasps, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, Toulouse (J. Kettles, 52nd. Foot.), third clasp with contemporary engraved replacement clasp facing, otherwise extremely fine

Private James Kettles, born Denham, Cheshire, 1792; enlisted in the 52nd Light Infantry, May 1812; served with the 1st Battalion in the Peninsula and received a wound to the foot, 10.11.1813, at Sare, during the storming of the heights of Vera in the Pyrenees, where the 52nd suffered heavy casualties largely at the taking of the strategic 'Star Redoubt' on the ridge; discharged, January 1815, after 2 years and 244 days with the Colours.
