Auction: 13USA - The Westchester Collection
Lot: 54
#226, 10c Green, a fabulously bright and fresh bottom sheet-margin single, featuring intense color and impression that would rival any proof, near perfect centering within uncharacteristically large margins, immaculate o.g., n.h., an extremely fine gem.[cr][lf][cr][lf]Collectors assembling a gem set of 1890-93 Small Bank Notes eventually encounter frustration when trying to acquire a Ten Cent value from the series. For inexplicable reasons, this particular value is notorious for being found both with tight margins and almost always off center to one side. That is what makes the example offered here so extraordinary. Not only is it incredibly well centered, but it possesses large margins as well. Contributing further to its desirability is its marvelous overall freshness and brilliance, not to mention being never hinged. One of the finest mint examples of Scott #226 we have ever offered.[cr][lf][cr][lf]Accompanied by a 1998 PF certificate and a 2008 PSE certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $7,000.00); one of only four to have been awarded this high grade.[cr][lf][cr][lf] Estimate US$ 5,250-6,250
